When does the sun set in Åre?

Sunset in Åre varies greatly depending on the season. In winter the days are short and the sun sets as early as 3–4 PM in December, while summer brings long evenings where the sun barely disappears behind the mountains before 11 PM. The dramatic shift in daylight is an essential part of the mountain experience and gives each season its own unique atmosphere.

In December and January the sun stays low above the horizon, and sunset comes early in the afternoon. Around Christmas it sets as early as 14:30, which makes the ski day shorter but the evenings longer. The winter light is especially beautiful, often colouring the sky in soft tones of pink and orange that reflect off the snow a mood many describe as magical.
In February the days grow longer quickly and sunset moves toward 16:00. The difference is noticeable from week to week, something both visitors and locals appreciate.

Spring brings a rapid change. In March, sunset is around 17:00, but by April the sun stays up past 19:00. During Easter it’s common to ski for several hours in warm sunlight before evening arrives. The bright spring days make this one of the most popular times to enjoy long sessions on the mountain.
Autumn works in the opposite direction. After the long days of late summer, the light disappears fast. In September sunset is around 19:30 and by October it approaches 17:00 again. The quick shift makes autumn dramatic in Åre, with glowing mountain colours giving way to darkness earlier each day.

June and July bring the longest days of the year. The sun sets around 22:30–23:00, yet it never becomes fully dark. Instead, a soft twilight remains through the night, creating a feeling similar to the midnight sun even though the sun does dip below the horizon. The long light allows evenings to be spent on the mountain, by Lake Åre or on village terraces late into the night. 
For summer visitors this is something truly unique and a striking contrast to the short winter days. Regardless of season, sunset times change quickly in the mountains.
