When does the sun rise in Åre?

The sunrise in Åre varies significantly throughout the year and influences both daily life and activities in the mountain village. During winter, the mornings stay dark for a long time, while summer offers almost endless daylight.

In December, the days are at their shortest and the sun does not rise until around 09:00–09:30. January continues in the same way, with late mornings and early evenings. This makes the ski days feel compact, but also atmospheric. The sky is often painted in soft shades of pink and orange as the light reflects off the snow, and many describe Åre’s winter light as magical.
In February, dawn begins to arrive earlier, and by mid-month the sunrise is around 08:00. By the end of February, it approaches 07:30, creating longer days on the mountain.
